Field Trip Friday: Gymnastics Gym Edition!

By Shannen Espelien Leave a Comment

The snow is finally start to melt here in what appears to be the arctic tundra, but still we must find indoor activities to partake in. What’s the next best thing to an indoor playground, or even better? A gymnastics gym! There are bars and soft tumbling mats for any active person to take joy in.

Field Trip Friday: Gymnastics Edition!Gymnastics is a healthy, active way to play and learn balance and control. I am a bit wary of gymnastics being a hobby after a certain age because of 1) the uniform in regards to modesy and 2) there seems to be almost an unhealthy weight expectation. Still, learning some balance and fun tricks using the beams and tumbling mats can lead to various activities later in life.

Community Education tends to have some gymnastics options, and if you have a gym near you that specializes in gymnastics, you can sometimes find open gym times. There may even be age separated open gym times, which can be beneficial for little ones to feel comfortable.

Check out what is available in your area, and many places have an option to try something out for free or cheap. If the kids like it, great! What a great way to burn off some extra energy when it’s either too hot or too cold to be outside!
