It’s November 5th. I told you how Care Bear is doing so far this school year, but I have to admit, I’m not learning lessons as fast as she is. I’m terribly behind.
Does anyone like grading papers? Is it something someone (anyone?) enjoys completing and it’s just me that dreads doing it, puts it off, and leaves it until last? I hate grading papers, and I feel obligated to grade them now that she’s in high school. I mean, can you actually grade your own essay and see your own mistakes at 13? There’s still so much to learn, and she needs a guide. She’s homeschooled, so for the most part, that means me.
It’s embarrassing to admit the last time I graded her Writing assignments. History is caught up, but that’s because those are easy to grade. Anyway, what to do when mom falls behind?
So, what’s my plan to get caught up?
- Set my timer. I’ve talked about using a timer before, but really it’s like magic. When you set a timer and you know you’re only committing that limited amount of time to the task, it is one of the best ways to be focused and get work done.
- Prioritize. I’ve let blogging take priority over grading papers because I like it more, but blogging is a want, and grading is a need. Like I always tell Care Bear, “Do what you have to do before you do what you want to do.” I need to follow my own advice
- Schedule “work” time. Nap times would be perfect, in a perfect world, but my little ones aren’t synced with their nap times yet. That means I need to work something out with Care Bear or Hubby to watch the little kids sometimes so I can focus on things. Then during those times, I need to review #2, of course.
Really, when it comes down to it, I just need to put on my big girl panties and just do it. It’s not like if I put it off, I won’t have to do it later. Oh, this high school journey is feeling like it’s going to be a long road with all these grades I need to keep up on! Any advice? 🙂
