It’s That Panicked Time of Year!

By Shannen Espelien 4 Comments

I can’t be the only homeschool mom out there that’s wondering if I’m ready for us to get back to the daily grind!

I felt all prepared yesterday morning, so proud that I had a Plan B for Care Bear’s science class that got canceled, but that plan is not going to work out the way I anticipated (which was basically outsourcing the whole thing). Now, I’m going to be making plans for her science work for the first time ever. No pressure though… just the first year of high school at home, and the first time tackling a subject that can have the most odds and ends to pick up from who knows what store. No pressure.

Alhamdulilah, it looks like we’ll work with one other family, get the kids together for a discussion circle and labs, and be able to bounce ideas off each other. What a weight off my shoulders! It’s still more than I was planning on, but it’s a huge relief. I still feel like such a homeschool newb when I think about coordinating science all on my own and not using a box curriculum. Besides, what box curriculum is out there for science that doesn’t cost a bajillion dollars? I’d love to find out!

So yeah, that was yesterday. Today I bring Care Bear’s Literature guide with to the park so I can read it and get an idea of what her week will look like. I have heard it’s a very hands off curriculum, which is why I let it wait until the last minute. Uhh, I really don’t see this as being as hands off as I was originally anticipating. I can probably set it up and Care Bear can just run with it, but it will take planning on my part to wade through the tons of resources the author provides. Plus, the first link I went to? Broken. I’m gonna be rich on Swagbucks when I’m done with this!

Panic is starting to set in, though I know this is temporary. We have co-op starting in a couple weeks, so as the coleader I’m trying to get classes filled, website updated, and all those start-of-the-year things done. Alhamdulilah, I’m not the only one and the other coleader is taking on organizing the Open House. For that, I am grateful!

I’m totally looking forward to October when (theoretically) I will be less busy with events and can in sha Allah just work through our daily grind. Well, then it’ll be Eid. Yes. Eid, then relaxation! Sounds awesome.
