Our Growing Family

By Shannen Espelien 4 Comments

Alhamdulilah, after a little worry late last week, we got to see our healthy baby yesterday in an ultrasound. Last week I hadn’t felt the baby move in a few days so I called the midwife and we went in Thursday evening to listen for the heartbeat. It only took a few seconds to hear the heartbeat, so that was quite a relief! The midwife said the baby probably was kicking towards my back so I wasn’t feeling the kicks.

The foot. 🙂

Yesterday we had our scheduled 20 week anatomy scan. We told the sonographer we don’t want to find out the gender, but of course none of us looked away when she measured the bladder and she said we should look away! Curiosity sure is strong! The sonographer was so nice and it was fun to have her point out each part of the baby. I don’t know how she determines what is what because it all looks the same to me! The funnest part is watching the baby move and feeling the kick inside at the same today, like it makes it all more real.

Since there is such a big gap between Care Bear and Little Miss, we had to buy everything all over again, so this is the first child where I’m not searching for a crib and high chair and everything… it feels like I’m not preparing well enough, though I don’t need to do as much this time around! Now, if this is a boy we’ll have to get a lot of new clothes, but I do have about a week of gender neutral clothes from Little Miss. I’ve gotten all gender neutral things otherwise so we could use them over and over.

Alhamdulilah, things are getting exciting! I love this part of pregnancy, where you can feel the baby move and you aren’t terribly uncomfortable yet. InshaAllah we’ll be blessed with a happy, healthy baby in about 4.5 months!

Walaykum assalam, it is fun to wait! To each their own though. Care Bear hates that we aren’t finding out! LOL
