The theme for NaBloPoMo for July is Connect. I like this theme because it reminds me that no matter how much I just want to hide away, I live in a big wider world, and we all need each other. This also reminds me of one reason I wanted to start this blog. The homeschool community is a tight knit community, but given the Muslims are scattered throughout the metro, and even sparse in other areas of the country, the online venue is a very effective way to connect.
Muslim homeschoolers are a niche within a niche, so when we find each other, it can be quite exciting! Unfortunately, many times I would come across a Muslim homeschooling blog, it was rarely updated recently. It made me sad to find this disconnect in the community (though I completely understand how a blog gets put to the wayside. I am passing no judgement).
In sha Allah the Muslim homeschooling community can join hands, both with each other and the wider world-wide community. While this blog is quite humble, in sha Allah it can bridge the geographical gap for some. Whether it’s thoughts on parenting, activities our family does in our learning journey, or discussions about ways to leave a smaller footprint on the earth. I hope this small and humble blog can bring together liked-minded people.
I can’t forget to give note to the value of community locally as well. Especially for the kids, they need to have others they can relate with, friends they can count on, and groups they can look forward to meeting with. At least where we live, it seems that the Muslims tend to take part in the secular groups more often because it is dependable and organized. In sha Allah our little community can gain that sort of reputation as well.
So, I hope you join me throughout my stay on the blog-o-sphere. Come, grab a cup of coffee, leave a comment or two, and stay a while. 🙂
