Ramadan Countdown 2013/1434

By Shannen Espelien Leave a Comment

Can you believe there’s less than 90 days left until Ramadan?!

I’m reminding myself first and foremost to not let this blessed month creep up on me without mental preparation. I have to admit the last few years have been very challenging for me to benefit from Ramadan as much as I wanted to because I have been excused from fasting (though I did try) from either being pregnant or nursing a little one.

With a little one underfoot, it’s probably even more important to prepare for Ramadan mentally because the distractions from ibadah (worship) are many. If I’m not in that mindset ahead of time, it takes almost the whole month to get into the groove.

Ramadan Countdown!I’ve come across some organizations that have programs or various reminders, getting us ready for Ramadan. Here’s what I’ve found thus far:

  • Rabata.org – This is an all sister’s forum and organization that provides workshops, both in person and live online courses. On the 11th of each month, starting in April, there is going to be an online session talking about preparing ourselves for Ramadan. Sign up for the community and you’ll get the emails on the exact time of the live stream.
  • Creative Motivations created a Facebook Event to join people in memorizing the 99 names of Allah the 99 days before Ramadan. You can also find worksheets on their blog here.
  • The Facebook page Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), I Love You & I wish to Follow Your footstep posts many beneficial things, and they also are focusing on the 99 names of Allah as we count down to Ramadan. These posts seem to go a bit more in depth with hadith or ayat referencing each name.

I’m sure as we hit the 30 day mark, there will be even more countdown activities online, in sha Allah. If I get my act together by then we may even have some here! In the meantime, start checking my Ramadan Pinterest board!
